Malcolm JohnDr. Malcolm John, an expert in infectious diseases, is director of the 360: The Positive Care Center at UCSF, one of the most comprehensive HIV and AIDS treatment programs in the country. He also serves as Director of the Men of Color Program at 360. In addition to his work at UCSF, John is an HIV consultant at the Larkin Street Youth Center and a consultant to the HIV Management Program of the Brown & Toland Medical Group, both in San Francisco.

John's research addresses molecular and immunologic components of diseases associated with the human papillomavirus (HPV) in HIV-infected patients, particularly among African Americans. He also studies differences in HIV care, treatment and outcomes among African Americans. A growing focus is on HIV and Aging, including evaluating differences among the aging HIV+ African American. Investigations will look at the interaction of duration of HIV infection, long-tern effects of antiretrovirals and aging itself on HIV infected individuals.

John earned a medical degree at Harvard University and a graduate degree in public health at the University of California at Berkeley. He completed an infectious disease fellowship at UCSF, where he was a postdoctoral fellow in the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Robert Wood Johnson Harold Amos Faculty Development Award. He is an assistant clinical professor in the department of medicine.
