HIV incidence is still high in San Francisco — increased from 1995 – 2001, stable since then, but with an unacceptably high number of new infections each year (just under 1000 new cases/year).

Giving Opportunities

We have had great success over the years at 360 and we are expanding our MOCP program to meet increasing needs. Charitable donations help us achieve our goals of reducing the disparity in outcomes for African Americans.

The Need is Evident

SFDPH reported that from 1999-2000, 53% of all African Americans dying of AIDS had no history of using the standard of care, triple drug therapy (highly active antiretroviral therapy, HAART); this compared to 31% for Caucasians and 35% for Latinos. As of 2004, African Americans still had the lowest utilization of triple drug therapy/HAART compared to all other ethnic groups in San Francisco.

Future Goals

MOCP has enjoyed great success and appreciation from clients and community organizations. We are now poised for major steps toward expansion of our services. Donations to MOCP will help us meet the following objectives of expansion and enhancements:

  • Introduce and develop clinic practices that better respond to culturally specific needs in African American men;
  • Document, evaluate and disseminate the MOCP model of specialized program of services for African American males infected with HIV;
  • Reduce geographic barriers to care based on clinic location/distribution of services in San Francisco by providing transportation solutions and add a satellite clinic in Mission Bay with the necessary additional staffing to increase service to BVHP and surrounding areas;
  • Develop an endowment to ensure the long-term growth of MOCP.
