Brighten Wings of Hope 2008

Wings of Hope will be held October 23, 2008 at One Embarcadero Center, Second floor gallery space.

Celebrity Co-chairs Greg Louganis and Nancy Wilson will be in attendance at our fourth annual event. Pioneering journalist Belva Davis, local television favorite Liam Mayclem and Actor Marcus Patrick are hosting the gala that features performances by jazz Legends George Duke and Narada Michael Walden. Michelin star chef Mark Dommen of One Market restaurant is creating a selection of small plates paired with wines from Beringer Vineyards. Cocktails are by Vodka 360 with soft beverages by Vignette Wine Country Soda.

GEORGE DUKE is a Bay Area native whose career has taken him around the world. George is known for his solo work as well as his collaborations with other musicians.  His list of collaborators includes some of the greatest artists performing of today. George shares: “The majority of the people I work with are more than musicians and singers, they are personal friends and friends help each other.  Believe it or not, we are a community and lending a hand to those in need is what we do.”  website

GREG LOUGANIS – A three time Olympian (Montreal, Los Angeles and Seoul), Greg inspired a worldwide audience with his nearly perfect scores in the Seoul Olympics despite suffering a concussion.  He is a six time World Champion and has held 47 National Championship titles.  Greg has fostered hope for many people touching both hearts and minds.  "People wait in line to see me, saying there's plenty of living to be done even if you have an HIV diagnosis.” website

MARCUS PATRICK is best known for his work in Days of Our Lives and All My Children.  Marcus was born in Great Britain and his talents embrace many aspects including actor, singer and model.  Marcus shares: “People may notice me because of my appearance and I am happy to use that for greater good but in truth I am but a messenger.  There is an African concept called “ubuntu” that is difficult to translate but essentially it affirms that our humanity is inextricably mutual, and that social harmony is the greatest good.   HIV is devastating to us all.  We share not only a common humanity but a common responsibility for each other.” website

NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN will be joining George Duke in a special performance at Wings of Hope 2008.  Narada is a multiple Grammy winner and legendary producer having worked with some of the top performers over the last three decades.  Narada shares: “Saying "yes" and "yes" some more has been a big inspiration in my life. I pray that as we take time to love God more and to love ourselves more that we know we can overcome anything and everything.  website

NANCY WILSON - Oprah gave her the official designation of legend.  In a career that has spanned more than fifty years, Nancy Wilson’s achievements have impacted both the entertainment industry and the battle for civil rights.  Nancy serves as Board Member and Honorary Spokesperson for the National Minority AIDS Council.  She shares:  “We’re talking about HIV/AIDS.  All people need to pay closer attention to their health, to themselves, and, as Black people, we need to be honest. And come forward, step up, and take some responsibility for our own care and our own health.website
